Abstract

The aim of this work is to show the different roles that clerics had in the Medieval Serbia, which proves that they were very trustworthy persons. The high dignitaries of the Serbian Church performed important diplomatic missions. The priesthood also had a prominent place in legal proceedings, whether its representatives were members of judicial collegiums or witnesses. The members of the clergy enjoyed a great reputation in Serbian towns, where residents could not alienate property without their testimony. The performance of ecclesiastical duties gave them the moral prestige to exercise many other activities in medieval Serbian society
