Abstract

The paper presents a detailed analysis of the charter issued on 7 November 1392, by King Stefan Dabiša of Bosnia, who at that time was the de facto ruler of southern Croatia and Dalmatia, to Vuk Vladislavić and Franko Ratković of the Croatian noble kindred Čubranić. Although this document has been mentioned in historiography, this article is the first to publish both of its preserved copies in full, together with a translation into contemporary Croatian. The charter had previously been suspected of being a forgery, but a thorough analysis has established that it is an authentic document, though it suffered certain alterations and errors during repeated transcription. Its authenticity is confirmed by the list of witnesses, which fully corresponds to the period of Dabiša’s reign when the charter was issued, by the verified identity of the recipients, and by the location of their estates, which can be corroborated through other sources
