Abstract

The paper discusses demographic dynamics and the network of settlements in the Koznik district during the 16th century. The administrative centre of the district was Koznik fortress, the only active fortresses in the Sanjak of Kruševac. The most densely populated area was the vineyard area, today part of Aleksandrovačka župa. The significant part of population had a privileged status due to services performed for fortress of Koznik and shipyards in Belgrade, Kruševac and Smederevo. The decline in the number of taxpayers began in 1516
