Abstract

: Authors present, relying on Serbian medieval records, as well as on Ottoman land registries (Tapu Tahrir Defterleri) and kânûns (legislative acts), inclusion of Serbian medieval župa Zagrlata into the Ottoman administrative and territorial organization. Paper analizes mentioned territory from Middle Ages until the end of 16th century. During that period the majority of population in Zagrlata enjoyed the privileged vlach status related to military service. At the beginning of the fourth decade of sixteenth century, their service was abolished as well as their privileges and they were classified as re‘âya. Crop-farming, viticulture, herding pigs, production of honey and wax represented the main economic activities
