Abstract

Unlike the British public opinion, especially the press that immediately after the great victories of the Balkan allies accepted the reality that further survival of Turkeu in the Balkans was impossible, as well as that territorial aspirations of the Balkan nations should be acknowledged, the First Balkan War and everything that emerged from it had completely different impact on the British Parliament. The British MPs seemed as if not aware of these new circumstances, and in line with the traditional Turkophile policy led by the British goverments since the mid 19lh century, stubbornly insisted on the preservation of the status quo and on preventing the Balkan states from reclaiming their territories the Turks occupied upon their arrival in the Balkans. In addition, they were the most vociferous in condemning the alleged crimes committed by the Balkan armies, especially Serbian and Bulgarian troops. Several MPs especially stood out, such as Herbert Aubrey and Walter Guinness, who were the loudest in lamenting over Turkeu and allegedly unfortunate fate of the Albanians. Of course, there were also MPs who soberly and without emotions, that is, rationally and practically reacted and sup- ported what the Balkan allies had done and claimed. The fact that 53 sessions of the parliament were held in the midst of the First Balkan War, during which the intricate Balkan issue was discussed, speaks volumes on the great attention the highest legislative body of the British Empire dedicated to the Balkan issue and the Balkan war
