Abstract

This article attempts to gather all the relevant information related to the presence of foreign soldiers in the medieval Serbian state during the Nemanjić Age (1168–1371). It is based on the wide range of Serbian, Greek and Latin sources and published material from Ragusan and Venetian archives. Besides chronological overview of the events in which the foreign soldiers took part, attention is also brought to their organization, and the role they played in the shaping of the Serbian medieval army
