The calendar of religious holidays in the Habsburg Monarchy was reformed in the course of the church reforms initiated by Maria Theresia. During the 1770s, many holy days observed as non-working days by the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox population were abolished. One of the reasons for the abolition of religious holidays was the increase in the number of working days, or the extension of the working year. This paper focuses on the reform of the Orthodox religious holiday calendar. The reform was carried out in three stages, between 1769 and 1786. Decisions to abolish the holy days were made at the sessions of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci, under intense pressure exerted by state authorities. With the abolition of holy days dedicated to Serbian saints, the calendar reform, in addition to being economic one, became political and religious in its character. After the reform, the calendar contained 29 holy days observed by the Orthodox population as non-working days
